Thesis CVX has spent six weeks in a range between about $1.80 and $2.39. The ceiling has now rejected three times: $2.391 on 29 Sep, $2.387 on 2 Oct and $2.384 today. Today it tagged $2.38, flushed to $2.042 and was bought back to $2.225. That long lower wick on 2.7x normal volume shows dips are being absorbed, but the third test still failed. A third test usually breaks next time, so the trigger is a 4h close above $2.40 on volume. Even then, the stop has to sit under today's base at $2.20, and the nearest real target is the 90-day high near $2.69. That gives about 1.4:1, which is too thin for a long right now. Crowd read Nobody is paying attention. CVX is 96% below its all-time high, isn't trending, and the volume is dead. That kind of boredom usually comes before a move. Today's intraday flush cleared out weak longs, and buyers stepped in, but holders at break-even have sold each push into $2.38–2.39. Until that supply is gone, rallies into the level get sold. Watch for Wait for a 4h close above $2.40 with 4h volume at least 2x average, then a second 4h close holding above $2.39. That would turn break-even sellers into chasers. If that happens and price pulls back to hold $2.30–2.33, the risk tightens enough for a 2:1 long. Separately, a dip to $2.08–2.10 that holds above $2.04 is a range-low bid worth watching, with the stop under $2.03. Wrong if A daily close back below $2.08 (the 1 Oct low) or a retake of today's $2.042 wick low would mean the absorption failed and the range's middle has broken. A fourth rejection at $2.38 on falling volume would also kill it, because the sellers there aren't running out. Exit rules none set Managed exit (half at 1R, trail 1R) not filled yet
Screener volume wake scored 56 (reasons were not kept on this call) Project I found nothing material in the last two weeks: no hack, unlock, listing or delisting. 93% of supply is already circulating against a 100M hard cap, so dilution is low. The only recent item was a minor governance and transparency update from July. Risks · Relative strength is poor: down 10.7% against BTC over 30 days and lagging on 7d and 1d too. CVX is drifting with the market, not leading it. · Kraken's CVX/USD book is thin, with about $420k quote volume in 24h. A single order can push it through $2.40 and the breakout may not hold. · Fear & Greed is in Greed at 70, and only 2 of the top 200 coins are up 10% today. Breakouts in this kind of market fail more often. · CVX trades as a Curve/CRV proxy, so any Curve-side news or a CRV selloff will drag it down whatever its own chart says. · Today's $0.34 range is twice the ATR. Volatility this wide around the trigger makes a fake break above $2.40 quite likely.
