Thesis
BEAM broke the 0.002248 range top on 4 Oct on about 8x normal volume. It spiked to 0.003052 but closed at 0.002535, leaving a 17% upper wick. On 5 Oct it rejected again at 0.002743. Price is now drifting lower on fading volume (0.00244, two red days), 17% above EMA20 with daily RSI at 71. That is a cooling spike, not a fresh breakout. The trade to want is a pullback into the 0.00225-0.00230 breakout shelf with dips being bought. Even there, the structural stop under the 2-3 Oct lows (0.00203) only gives about 1.8:1 to the 0.00274 swing high, so it stays a watch.
Crowd read
Everyone who bought between 0.0026 and 0.0030 on 4-5 Oct is now underwater and will sell near break-even. That caps rallies and makes the first push back to 0.0027 likely to fail. No project news lines up with the pump, so the move was flow-driven, and those usually give back a good part of the spike before buyers come back. A calm, low-volume retest of 0.00225 that holds would show the early holders are staying put.
Watch for
Price pulling back to 0.00225-0.00230 with 4h volume drying up and a lower-wick rejection that closes back above 0.00228. Then a 4h close back above 0.00250 to confirm buyers. If price instead reclaims 0.00275 on volume without a pullback, re-rate it as a continuation, not a retest.
Wrong if
A daily close back inside the old range, below 0.00222, means the breakout failed and the spike was a one-day pump. A hard flush through 0.00225 on rising sell volume, with no lower-wick absorption, also kills the retest idea before the stop.
Exit rules
· close below 0.00222 (1d): Back inside the pre-breakout range: the 4 Oct breakout failed
· btc drop pct 4.0: BTC losing 4% in Greed will drag a spiked small-cap straight through its shelf
· no progress hours 72.0: If the retest bid hasn't lifted within 3 days, the holders have lost interest

Project
I found no BEAM-specific catalyst (listing, partnership or unlock) explaining the 4 Oct spike. TokenPost only reported the +35% move. Circulating supply is 87.7% of max, so unlock overhang is modest. Recent official updates are routine network maintenance, including the Avalanche Helicon validator upgrade. Reflection AI announced an unrelated 501B-parameter 'Beam' model on 5 Oct, which may be causing confused search and social attention.
Risks
· Kraken BEAM/USD only traded about $152k in quote volume over 24h, so wicks like 25 Sep (0.001461) can hit stops without the wider market moving
· No catalyst behind the 4 Oct +35% move, so it can fully retrace to the 0.0020-0.0021 base
· The 0.003052 spike high and the 0.002743 lower high form a declining wick pattern. Supply is sitting at 0.0026-0.0027, right under target1
· Reflection AI launched an unrelated 'Beam' AI model on 5 Oct. Name-confusion attention can briefly lift the token and then fade
· Breadth is weak (only 25.6% of the top 200 up on the day) and Fear & Greed is at 73 (Greed), conditions where alt breakouts fail more often
