Thesis AAVE broke the 176.11 Sep 29 high on Oct 2 with the heaviest volume in the window (51.2k), printed 187.5, and has since built a tight 4h box between 176.2 and 187.5. The 4h band width is at its narrowest in the sample (0th percentile), so it is coiling above the old breakout level. Today was the second test of 187.5 and it failed: the push to 187.21 came on the biggest 4h volume of the week and closed back at 181, leaving a 60% upper wick on the daily. At 181 you are in the middle of the box, 15% above the EMA20, with daily RSI 71. Buying here gives a poor R:R in either direction. The trade is a bid near the 176-178 retest zone with a stop under the box, aiming to sell into 187. Crowd read Watch for Bid at 177.5-178.5 only if the 4h candles that dip into 176-178 leave lower wicks and close back above 177. Skip it if a 4h candle closes under 176. A 4h close above 187.6 on volume over 6k is a third-test breakout: don't chase it at 188 (R:R to 200 is about 1:1); wait for a pullback to 184-185 that holds. Wrong if A daily close back below 176 means the breakout has failed and the late-September buyers are trapped. Also invalid if price drifts down into the bid on fading volume while BTC rolls over, because then the dip is the market leaving, not AAVE being re-accumulated. Screener retest scored 66 (reasons were not kept on this call) Project Recent flow is mostly constructive. The DAO voted on Oct 3 to set up a Cayman foundation to hold Aave's trademarks and IP. A 20,000 ETH (~$54M) transfer moved from Bitfinex to an address attributed to Aave. Reported deposits are about $33.8B, with roughly $82M of 2026 revenue so far. The one negative is the Oct 4 exploit of a third-party v3 adapter for about 114 ETH; the core protocol was not affected. Supply is 96.5% circulating, so unlocks are not a factor. Oct 2's $185 yearly high made the news, which means retail attention arrived around the 187.5 top. The coin is not on CoinGecko's trending list. Risks · The stop sits only about 2% under the entry while daily ATR is about 5.9%, so a normal wick through 176 could stop the trade out before it works · Heavy 4h volume rejected at 187.2-187.5 twice: sellers are defending the yearly high · A wider structural stop under the Oct 2 low (170.6) cuts R:R to target1 to about 1.1, so the trade only works with the tight stop · Fear & Greed is 70 (Greed) and total market cap is down 1.7% today, so a market pullback would drag AAVE back into the 170s · Oct 4 exploit of a peripheral v3 adapter (~114 ETH): small, but another headline could hit a DeFi lender hard Sources https://coinmarketcap.com/cmc-ai/aave/latest-updates/ https://www.kucoin.com/news/flash/aave-surges-to-yearly-high-creating-wealth-for-multiple-traders https://pluang.com/en/news-feed/aave-total-deposits-mencapai-2-73-triliun-dan-usulan-pendirian-yayasan Features at call time pct_1d: 1.23 pct_7d: 21.31 vol_ratio_eff: 1.01 rsi_1d: 71.26 bbw_pct_rank: 78.22 dist_to_high_20d_pct: 3.41 consec_green_1d: 1 overhead_supply_share: 0.01 upper_wick_ratio_1d: 0.60 lower_wick_ratio_1d: 0.17 rs_vs_btc_7d: 18.76 from_ath_pct: -70.52
